We have have had some wonderful Grand Marshals for the Latino Heritage parade & jamaica.   A very partial list includes: Lalo Guerrero, Raul Rodriguez, Dolores Huerta, Val Zavala, Tomas Benitez, Tony Plana, Suzanna Guzmán, and Hector Tobar.

Meet our Chairperson for the 2012 Latino Heritage parade & jamaica committee

Over the next several days we'll be sharing a bit about each of our honored dignitaries and award recipients.  It's great that we have all of these in place so early in the year.  We also have a new position that is being filled.   We are so lucky that Sandra M. Gutierrez is our first Committee Chair for the Latino Heritage parade & jamaica committee.

She is a California native from the Coachella Valley. Sandra lives in Pasadena with her husband, Luis R. Torres, a writer and journalist. She has Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Management and works for Kaiser Permanente.

Sandra is a community activist who has advocated for immigrant rights, unionization, youth counseling and cultural diversity. She is on the advisory committee for the annual Adelante Mujer Latina Conference which provides career and educational options for high school girls. Sandra is also the Co-editor of the award-winning book, Teatro Chicana, A Collective Memoir and Selected Plays, published in April 2008 by the University of Texas Press.

Sandra will be leading meetings and helping us stay connected to each as we continue our preparations for this year.
